future flight
fleet butterflies
soft flutter-byes
they dangle on the wind
whose vigilance
bears relevance
to fragile humankind
we congregate
to pollenate
the anthem of their wings
these democrat
sophistocats
whose dance new harvests brings
lithe metamorphs
far better off
where migrant spirits call
they, sentient
with sentiment,
drool long for summer’s ball
development
predicament
kills ways and habitats
of butterflies
whose life relies
on subtle caveats
high barriers
the calibre
of quino cherckerspots
put to the test
though all the rest
fly high above the knots
insecticides
and pesticides
turn gossamer to dust
we should preserve
what they deserve:
environmental thrust
emergency
catastrophe
the whole wide world might starve
matter-of-fact
it’s time to act
lest our own graves we carve
new civil rule
at home and school
must stem the deadly plight
of butterflies
whose hope relies
on man for future flight
