From a Distance
I need to love you from a distance
As my heart bleeds to keep you close
For the distance shields the pain
The pain of a broken heart
Pounding so loudly through my chest
Like the Indian festival drummers
If only I could shut down
The fears and nightmares
That keep the nights longer
Or the memories that were never to be
Our dreams lost in transcript
Your sweet words i longed to hear
Replaced by backhanded compliments
The rejection overwhelming
Praying the mask would finally fall off
And return my love once more,
But that was never to be
so now I choose
To love you from a distance
