Young Love

So this one time, at band camp…
I met the girl of my dreams,
However we were from different cities,
But the love would grow beyond our teens.

Let me take you back to August, Nineteen-Ninety,
A summer romance that lasted a lifetime,
She gave me a smile, I gave her my heart,
And the words glowed like warm sunshine.

I went home motivated and inspired,
Writing poetry like I’d never done before,
And though we both decided to be friends,
Deep down we wanted something more.

I was lucky enough to have found young love,
Even though we would go our separate ways,
Only to find each other again a decade later,
Rekindling the embers set my soul ablaze.

Here’s to the verse I wrote when I was sixteen,
To the night we met because love had sprung.
It’s a testament of the love I feel to this day,
And may the emotion keep us forever young.
