This Town We Call Home

Remote, isolated, humid
This town we call home
Hot and muggy
Sweat trickles from every pore
Red dirt and dust stick like glue
A/C's provide little relief
The Kimberleys, NW Frontier
Torrential storms flood the marsh
The Wet Season looms
High tides buldge,
Reaching record levels
Majestic  Kimberlys
Young indigenous kids
Barefoot,
They call the back streets home
Booze, drugs, crime and police
Few escape the cycle
Resigned to the ongoing tension
Majority are stubborn
Few forge forward
Hope blazing
Strength alive
Resilience necessary
Only the  tough survive
This town we call home

Author's Note
This poem is a result of a game my partner and I played. Each had to choose 20 words describing our town, giving us a total of 40 words, all words had to be used with a few extras. We also had a time limit of 10 minutes.
This is the result of my work
