Unfinished Business in 2019
I took a step back to observe what’s around me,
I see postings of new year resolutions for 2020
Friends but not my friends talking about,
"I wanna be a better me"
When the hell did we leave 2019?
2020, I'm not even ready.
Am I the only one who feels that time has passed them by
With a pause on thoughts for the future life
have I no more dreams to follow
have I no desires,
no plans,
aspirations?
Of course I want to be a better me,
I've been trying all year.
Will this new year wash my slate clean,
Will it automatically wipe my utility bills from, I can't afford it, to zero dollars and zero cents?
Why are we so caught up in believing that a new year brings happiness
As soon as the clock strikes twelve?
Well I’m here, I made it to 2020, thank God.
Now I'm back to figuring out how to finish
My unfinished business of 2019.
