Another Lonely Night

And there she stands
Proof positive that you can be lonely
In a room full of people
With a drink in her hand
She does the small talk mambo
And wonders where there might be someone
To really talk to
She wanders aimlessly through the crowded party
Like a wraith among the blithely living
Simply hoping for that ghost of a chance
That there might be magic in this room
But magic while ever present
Has no tricks to play for her tonight
Or on any night it seems to her
So small talk must take the place of real
And air kissed cheeks as she leaves for the night
Are as close to the kiss of a lover as she is going to get
So alone she makes her way back to an empty apartment
In a crowded city
And there she stands
