INKling11

INKling no11—forgiveness

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if ye forgive not
men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
—Matthew 6:14, 15 (KJV)

turn not the other cheek, if you are able
caricature forgiveness as a fable
let hatred pin you to the ground
if treasures there your soul has found
your bridges burn
behind your heels
and every pang
of guilt conceal
favours return
of spiteful nights
deny yourself
love’s golden light
create an island of yourself—
a hopeless one-man commonwealth
or men forgive their trespasses
that God may heal your blemishes
