Between the Mile Markers
The distance here
between you and I;
it’s not laid with
any
~or~
all
the words we say
the politeness is bittersweet
~yet~
there appears to be infinite road
stretching out before us,
the faded pavement
glittered here and there
with tiny resentments
that keep us going
between the mile markers
reminding us
of any and all of them;
words we don’t
or
those we won’t
(we can’t)
bring ourselves
to speak out loud
between you and I;
it’s not laid with
any
~or~
all
the words we say
the politeness is bittersweet
~yet~
there appears to be infinite road
stretching out before us,
the faded pavement
glittered here and there
with tiny resentments
that keep us going
between the mile markers
reminding us
of any and all of them;
words we don’t
or
those we won’t
(we can’t)
bring ourselves
to speak out loud

A wonderful flow of thought and consciousness, Luna.
I have one nit:
of any [of] and all of them
You do not need that second 'of' to paint the point.

Totally agree with the nit; I rearranged it so many times trying to get the of’s in all their proper places, I lost track of it. Thank you 💜

That can certainly be true. I tried to be judicious with breaks and semi-colons; i’m glad you caught them. It wasn’t easy to separate my rapid-fire thoughts into cohesive pieces of thought today.

Oh no, no worries at all - I understood what you meant and I’m glad you noticed as they were all very intentional 💜.

You've really found your rhythm with the length and shape of the lines. Touching into these revelations so gently is a mark of maturity, both as a person and artist. The punctuations are quite lovely. The message is deep and penetrating. Your road is like a river.

I think I love your assessment of my poem even more than the poem itself. As always, I appreciate you, Daniel 💜.

Dear L,
Oh boy, I sure know this feeling. Unfortunately all too well. Part of me wonders if I’d be committed, jailed or flung out to sea if those I’d really like to say things to could read my thoughts. Even the accompanying photo has meaning for me as this is how I see the other person I can’t ever seem to get the right words to. They are small, distant, untouchable. Hazy figures that won’t clear up. Which makes me want to shut down even further.
The politeness is bittersweet- almost comparable to a toothache. Yet, real words and truths fester like a virus. The irony. Your mastery at capturing these truths is like on ninja level! Excellent. H 🌷

Fascinating! You worked the road metaphor beauty into a love poem. It takes real talent to take such a metaphor and build a truly solid and beautifully cohesive poem that reads like a breeze through the oaks at night.

Fuck this hits hard, the very same. A great reminder to myself to not close in. Even in times that i feel i need to, because it's just self excuse, and i don't need to. Not here at least.
I have been trying to add to my words (like almost not typing "at least" above. But condensing my thoughts to skip typing has been detrimental.
Same with whatever 'professional' responses we started to muster at some point. I want to, and am ready to let down my hair and topple my stones so to speak.
All of that sparks as a reminder from this work of art that helps me so deeply see, understand, and acknowledge myself and how i behave.
To add to the comment as well, holy damn can you write. Woo!

I’m so happy that you came to read this, it helps me to look back and see my words and I might not have done that otherwise. Thank you, thank you, thank you ❤️
