Aikah is Leaving

Armies of angels
Cast careless from heaven
Handfuls of silver seed
Take purchase among us
Thrive grow bend in the wind
Mingle their starry roots with ours

They fall unexpected
Taking their light
The short sweet shine
Leaving a breadcrumb stardust trail
A fading comet’s tail
A few pictures
A chewed toy
Some fur
Dispersing, reminding ever fainter
Echo hounds bouncing down
Our narrow canyon walls
Remember my joy by your side?
Will you truly, deeply always remember me?
Not just words like a flat postcard, but
Remember the story of my laughing heart
And how I felt safe by your fire?
I love you so, fresh each day as sunrise
Built to run for you and look in your eyes,
Never counting never stingy
Always here and now for you
Even on days when you failed
To need me or take heed of me
My love poured like water
No hesitation,
Right over the god-damned edge
Of this fucking mighty sea
Who said we wanted this life of loss?
Who said you could flicker and vanish?

I leave now, unwilling,
My ears are soft, but my paws grow stiff and cold
Who will watch you all the dark night?
There is no other me.

I am lifted on strange winds
They came uninvited blowing in
Carried too far away for you trace
I fear you cannot follow me
Though you call all night in the woods
You say my name, my name...
You cannot track my trail
You can’t call me home
Though you know I look back
Fixed on you alone, my north star
Until you are a speck receding and gone
I don’t know where it’s taking me
Except away from my post
Past my life long vigil over you
Where I prefer to stay.

I may run swift and young again
So far away,
In foreign lands
They say I will play
But where will our joy lie
How will our joy dream itself,
Our paws and fingers twitch in time
With me loosed, my life-mate,
Where nobody knows my name,
Nobody is calling me;  Aikah, Aikah
I hear no more the north star
of your homing voice
I bound strange fields towards no one
fields where you will never call my name
