Calls From The Beyond

I hear the voices calling,
Somewhere from the darkness in the beyond,
Like a choir and orchestra,
Playing a symphony,
With a beautiful ethereal song.

But they tell me its selfishness,
When one walks on the edge in this path,
Contemplation is but a mere reflection,
When the desire for death comes and goes.

There is so much beauty in it,
The culmination of life,
Leaving unanswered questions,
Like triumph and tragedy,
A mystery for those left behind.

Doesn’t anyone else hear the shadows?
A languid guilt trailing off into the night,
Finding a resting place amid facades
Of smiles and laughter
Like an ominous cloud lingering.

Everything has an ending,
Some sooner than others,
Some linger in the wings of broken promises,
  and crushed dreams,
Like traces of ghosts from the past.

A poet is sometimes haunted by otherworldly pains,
A tortured soul in silence concealed,
Driven by some unknown force,
Some call it a mental illness,
Maybe creativity and madness,
When the darkness calls from the beyond.
