Word is Bond
I’m bringing back
WORD IS BOND
What you say defines who you are, at least to me
I was taught
Say what you mean, and mean what you say
It’s a promise that what I am saying to you bonds us
It used to mean
I am telling you the absolute truth *circa 1980*
That was when men took pride in the words they spoke
Men like my father, who isn’t perfect
But if he says it!!!
His Word is as good as gold
WORD IS BOND
Was to any and everyone
He didn’t make promises, he knew he
Couldn’t
or
better yet, wouldn’t keep
He didn’t casually,
throw around avowals or opinions
Naw! That ain’t him…
Frank would be an understatement!
If you think my tongue is sharp!
I try to be diplomatic
My Dad does not spare feelings all
What he says is his word
He doesn’t just ramble on
To hear himself talk
He says that words have
Consequences
WORD IS BOND
They have meaning, Tonya
(my real name)
Words, he said,
Evoke emotions and inspire trust,
Be careful with yours
I was taught that from very young
Hard Lessons,
Repeated
Throughout my life
I learned later in life how words can
cast spells
They can be used to influence others
Enthuse brilliance,
if conveyed well
They can also create chaos
Hurt…
Pain…
d*e*l*u*s*i*o*n*s
break
up
homes
your,
words…
your
spells…
your
rituals…
WORD IS BOND
You can lose everything
My Dad asked me
“If you don’t stand on your word,
I don’t know who I raised!
What kind of woman are you striving to be babygirl
really? ”

I guess that’s why I feel people should be held accountable
For the things they say…
WORD is BOND
