The Promise
there they were
still laid up at 7:16 am
he stayed up
all night comforting her
in her loss
in one of
the most trying moments
of her life
he decided to be
more than just a gentleman
he gave her
his gentle soul to rest
her head upon
he kept his clothes on
undressed his ego
just so he could address
the tender rawness of her emotions
from a place of
genuineness compassion
and empathy
never seeking
an advantage...or hedging for
future leverage
he gave her the space
in which she could bare her
vulnerabilities
he poised himself as
her silent bear
that would protect her wholeness
stilled in steadiness
as she wept until she slept
at last relieved
by a promise that was
finally kept
