Smiling Faces

As I'm continuing to make paces and looking into faces
Seeking eye contact and smiles but there aren't any traces
Distrust erases remnants of brotherhood, sisterhood and joy
Dividing us up into little boxes like we're inanimate toys
Whose ploy was it to get us all to devolve into an animal kingdom
Where our drive is for our tribe to survive while destroying the rest of them
Sink or swim but don't expect very many to help you float
Only the strong survive so build a boat in order to stay afloat
They say to keep hope alive but mines has reached an untimely demise
Observing humanity's insanity through a different set of eyes
Tough times seem to revolve like the hands of a clock on the wall
Just when you anticipate smooth sailing you'll come to a stall
Got to stand tall through it all and give it your very best shot
Might not be a pot of gold by the rainbow or where X marks the spot
Fear not because everyone's journey isn't inherently the same
Travel across the lawn like a pawn seeking power in a strategic chess game
