Self Portrait at 28: A Sonnet
Lately I have been loving my grey eyes
Twenty-eight and it fits me like a glove
Grey hairs hidden under chemical dyes
A heart that struggled to beat, now bleeds love
Sparrow foot prints emerge under eyelid
Dimples pierce rounded cheeks the sun has kissed
Hard to imagine that I was a kid
Lifetimes have passed, each gone but not missed
My pearly white teeth, crooked yet charming
Staying hid from most, break free to greet you
Please, do not find my loud laugh alarming!
Quiet at first, I open up to few
I overcome the errors of my past
Each lifetime better than the last
