The 99ers

The ravages of the elements
How they make weary the heart and soul
A wonder how we can still claim indifference
Until that time when the bell tolls

Someone suggests the children
Who are protected from slaving away
Their crime in being born in poverty
Faulty logic in improving their days

Based on the idea that the adults that surround them
Are lazy, have no desire or sense of work
While dividends and stocks pad robber barrons' incomes
And escape taxes with loopholes and perks

So I must now feel guilty for a pension
For my luck in the classroom time
As if I took from public coffers
Stole someone else's dime

Meanwhile a ball player will get millions
Upon millions because the market says that's fine
While another educator stares down the prospect
Of fun paperwork and the unemployment line

So capitalism may have merits
But left unchecked as so many would like
Leaves us born without a silver spoon
Puzzled on many a cold winter's night
