I Love how Softest Touch can Rise in Peaks – Sonnet Thirty-Eight
I love how softest touch can rise in peaks
The flesh that brings the hardest wants engage.
To know that ease which simple touches seek
In raising want, the harder reaches' wage.
For finger tips can such caress discern
That brings to life the waves of wanting seas,
With bringing want, the gain of mountain’s yearn
To split these waves and with such splitting please.
How hard does such soft breach raise wants’ desire,
How soft brings wants to bear such hardened gain,
How soft and hard, such sea and mount conspire,
Till soft bear hard and hard bring soft its swain.
In gift of softest wantings hardly brought
Are softest gifts that hardest wanting sought.
