Morality
I don't know of a single man throughout history
...who…
having discarded conventional ...morality…
in order to achieve a position of ...power…
has used that power
...benevolently…
for the good of their fellow man.

Trading one corruption for another, that's what I've seen. I was just venting about this the other day.

Re. Morality
Agreed, and very well put - and it is so because 'ends' and 'means' are One-Thing. ("A violent war begets a violent peace" as Ghandi is reputed to have said). 'Ends' have the same characteristics as the 'means' used to get there { end of lecture :)) }

Last thing I read of his was The Screwtape Letters... there's a sense of humor in there, though I find him just a bit oversure of his Christianity...at least from my jaded point of view.
I think we all are possessed of a Spirit... animal, vegetable, mineral...as are you and me... Thanks very much for your comment
and the visit...hugs, Ely

Interesting - I read The Screwtape Letters 40 years ago, and had another delve more recently but found the same as you - 'oversure' - and also that christianity is a punishment-based religion, despite all the well-known talk of atonement, etc - it's still the condemnation that is a-priori. One reason why I left it all behind.

I love the poem Ely. Of course as a moral relativist I know of no "absolute moral values"...all values are subjective and always built around power and fear...pleasure and pain. As both Nietzsche and Zhuangzi pointed out...truth, like morality, are relative affairs, there are no facts merely interpretations. When I tell people that I am a moral relativist...an amoralist...they always ask where do my values come from...balance and harmony...I help others because it brings me peace and inner joy...what the Dalai Llama meant when he recommended we be a little selfish in a spiritual kind of way lol.
