Sleepwalking
Do not let me be reborn.
Your final kiss was life enough.
We walk quiet towards the suns,
I had named as lullabies for you.
Once hand-in-hand upon the shore,
A shared shadow now departs.
There is no glow of night around us:
Moons bearing golden cities of light
Swarmed now by petals that choke the stars.
Raindrops. Raindrops mask my tears
As we sleepwalk; our steps backward;
Facing each other as newfound strangers
In a dream we cannot confess we share.
We say our goodnight, but only hear
Sighs in the grass of the seasons that will not be.
Shadows lengthen across the sky.
It is dawn, and the bells are ringing;
“Gone…Gone...” weeps the silver.
Veiled angels surround; wings bleeding.
A single candle lit. The flame sways.
So beautiful, a face glows in the blue.
Will I walk to the horizon beyond the sea?
I drink of this cup, the liquor burns me.
And the angels die…
