I Can’t Just Sit and Wait for Rain to Fall – Sonnet Thirty-Four
I can’t just sit and wait for rain to fall,
For sun to run to clouds in dark embrace.
I can’t just wait for those I can’t recall
To rise from muddy graves and take my place.
For somber sun can’t break through leaden sky
As death from stolid life cannot be stayed
So let the winter night in summer lie,
As summer day in winter's night be laid.
I walk the miles it takes to bring me near
That place where my last steps will find their rest.
For in my walkings' wake will persevere
The steps that I let fall with their request.
So let rain and winter chase me down,
In sun and summer's waking wonder found.
