Requiem of Broken Glass (Father)
Father?
Can you hear me?
Are you even on this side of the dirt?
Or are you lost forever?
Ironic, the idea of six-feet under being
A world away
Or did you just leave?
Or was it me?
I have so many questions for you
Was I the replacement for my half-sisters?
Did you prefer a boy?
Perhaps I was a mere replacement
For that stillborn infant now locked
In a test tube?
Was I simply your way of smashing
that piece of glass in an attempt
To scoop out the son that never was?
To bring him to life?
Father?
Can you hear me?
Are you still alive?
The only answer I know is that
Whether you're miles from here
Or buried with your name etched in stone
You are still a lifetime far away
Can you hear me?
Are you even on this side of the dirt?
Or are you lost forever?
Ironic, the idea of six-feet under being
A world away
Or did you just leave?
Or was it me?
I have so many questions for you
Was I the replacement for my half-sisters?
Did you prefer a boy?
Perhaps I was a mere replacement
For that stillborn infant now locked
In a test tube?
Was I simply your way of smashing
that piece of glass in an attempt
To scoop out the son that never was?
To bring him to life?
Father?
Can you hear me?
Are you still alive?
The only answer I know is that
Whether you're miles from here
Or buried with your name etched in stone
You are still a lifetime far away
