The Long Vacation
Sending love to my friends and family.
Remember the ones you love
and love the ones you remember.
So many have lost loved ones
and we can have comfort
knowing they are in a safe place,
free from fear and much closer
to understanding the mysteries around us.
Yes , they were taken
Yes, they left
A long vacation
Which they never return
And it will be a long while
Before you visit.
Who was it that inspired you
Who was there to keep you safe
Who reminded you
To do your best
And smile
In the face
Of adversity
We hold each day
Like we live it for them
Holding it still
When we think of them
Holding the air
Stopping time
Wrapping our energy
Around moments in time
When you smiled at me
Got mad at me
Helped me
And encouraged me
For your memory is with me everyday
And the thought of you
Can make me cry on command
Like a great actress
Pretending not to miss you
Pretending to have fun without you
It's much easier just to call you

You're in good company with Robert Frost ("No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader"). Glad you take the approach that poetry is essentially an emotional experience, not an academic exercise.

Thank you Josh. Yes, I love that! I fall into emotional perspectives on the mundane. If a poem is enjoyable the second and third time, I feel it is well grounded and capable of making the reader contemplate if it resonates with their own lives.
