Lock Me Up

Why does it seem like rhyming is such a crime
Well I guess if it is I’ll be doing some hard time
Lock me up and throw away the key
For I’ll keep it up even from my cell if it be
I’ve heard criticisms and I can’t comprehend
Why I have to justify or have to defend
That this is how my mind works when I sit down to scribe
While I don’t want to participate in some diatribe
It almost makes me feel less, like I’m not as good
That I’m not writing poetry as I ought to or should
Though at the same time my memory is so clear
That poetry has no rules so there is nothing to fear
If I decide to rhyme no one can lock up my verse
And should it be my natural way then call it a curse
But I won’t stop my writing, though it may seem childish
No I won’t stop how I think even if it’s some wish
Of someone who looks down upon my writing for only this
They don’t have to read it and it’s sad that they’ll miss
They’ll miss what I’m aiming for, the point that I make
But I’ll keep on writing make no mistake
So lock me up in your smallest cell and throw away the key
Bury me in the deepest ocean at the bottom of the sea
I will rest and write my poems with the rhymes that come to my head
I’ll write it all down until I’m long dead
