My Thanksgiving
And when I leave you, my dearest flower,
as you well know that someday I will do,
prepare not for that loneliest hour,
for my heart still beats with true love for you.
For my departure is not mine to choose,
and I am bound by all of life’s lean laws.
I have but one love, and one life to lose,
save for you, I gladly enter Death’s jaws.
There remains one scene of Earthly delight
that fills my soul with hope and Thanksgiving,
It is the one I will treasure this night,
that belongs in the land of the living.
I know eternity will be sublime,
for I have witnessed true love, in my time.
as you well know that someday I will do,
prepare not for that loneliest hour,
for my heart still beats with true love for you.
