It creeps

You can’t sleep, there’s something outside your home
It pounds on the door and rattles the handle
It’s after midnight and you’re all alone

Something lurks and something crawls
Something waits outside your walls
Is it, It, or is it rain?
You hear a tapping on the window pane

Staring through the shutters drawn
Every night from dusk until dawn
With eyes like winter, violent and calm
It’s sings like the wind howling a song

That scraping sound could just be branches
But what could that be on the roof?
Falling hail, no, more likely avalanches
Or is it really hellish hoof?

Something’s tearing at your walls
You hear the wood break down and fall
One by one the nails are exhumed
Somethings coming and it’s coming soon

Down your hallway it lurks, from hell it crawled
Now beneath the door a shadow falls
You in you bed sheets, you tremble with fear
“I can hear your heart beat” it slurs from so near

Twisting the handle, the door eerily creaks
Inch by inch a slow inward sweep
“There you are.” It said as the door creeps wide
Out of the darkness peers two shining eyes

Saying nothing it stares its unblinking glare
Fading in the daylight until nothing is there
How many nights must you go without sleep?
When every night awake, the closer it creeps.
