If the poem is not legible in the image:
A loon sits lonely on the lake
Singing her somber songs.
Her cries ring out into the night,
For the perfect drake, she longs.
Her haunting melodies echo clear,
Far across the frozen land,
As her cries reach out to the listening ear
Of another lonely loon at hand.

Re: Re. The Lonely Loon
Thank you very much, JusTim! I'm honored by the RL :)
I don't often do visual poems, so I'm curious if it was easily legible?

Ah, okay. That was the case on my phone as well... Rotating my screen made it display more clearly though. Thanks again JusTim!

Hey MysticalRose!
At first I was going to write 2 more stanzas to accompany this, but once I decided on a visual poem, I decided against it to keep it sweet and simple.
Anyway, thanks for the compliment and the good wishes. It's always good to hear from you :)

This is very nice NB. I love the call of the loon - it's eerily haunting yet soothing to the soul.

Thank you, Ahavati! I completely agree with you about the wailing call; It is one of my favorite sounds of this earth :)

That you are, my friend! Kidding, but it's actually good to be loony, I think. I think life makes us that way. Besides, what would we put in the bins, if we weren't loony?
You're great NewB!

"There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line."
- Oscar Levant
If what is popular these days is what's seen as normal, I think I'll pass 😁. Who defines normal anyway? We all have our own version of normal. I think normal really just means 'more similar to the majority', but the more similar to the majority you get, the less unique you special you become. With that said, why is normalcy even a coveted thing?
*indistinguishably rambles on for another hour* lol

You always say so much in the few words that you choose.
Sometimes, I wish I could do that

Thanks so much for stopping by again, fb3000! It means a lot!
It helps to know exactly what you want to say from the start. Just keep up the writing and you'll get the hang of it. If you practice haikus, that will probably help too. They are only 17 syllables, so that forces you to make what you say extra meaningful and important.

Great structure
Was it you're poem?
Not sure I read that properly
But all the same I love how you encapsulated the poem with the picture
It's very fitting & quite beautiful

Thank you for your kind compliments, Rose :)
Yes, I wrote the poem, but I can't take credit for the beautiful photo. Sorry if that wasn't clear in the author's note. The photo is actually an oil painting called 'Night Song', painted by an artist named Wayne McLoughlin. The artwork fit my poem very well, so I decided to use it :)
