Footprints (in the sand)

Ebb and flow
quick then
slow
breakers foaming
crashing, rumbling
sliding smoothly
up the beach
where I stand
just out of
reach
pebbles and shells
scattered on soft
yellow sand
here on this
island
where I grew up
lived and worked
and yes
partied too
enjoyed my youth
memories made
treasured
and now I'm here
gazing out to
sea
feeling the warmth
between
my toes
thinking about
my life
how it has been
so far
where I am and
where I  might
end up
years from now
i am not sad
I have been
lucky
my life has been
blessed
If I have one
sorrow
It is that the tide
will erase my
footprints
by
tomorrow
