pretender

the broken in me...
can't reach the flame in you
you dance on my periphery
lighting the darkness in me

I desire your heat
but the cold in me
would snuff out your beauty
turn it into something ugly

I'm not enough
I'm better on paper
my passion burns...

only in the world, I create
in a place, I can control
in a world that can't hurt me

can't you see the real me?

hidden away...
where I can't be made to bleed
even in this perfect isolation
you enter and speak to me
my heart is touched deeply

I can't walk in the light with you
so turn away beautiful
pretend you don't see me
