Genmaicha, Green & Tea

The old metal pot whistles an eerie pitch
one that forces my thoughts to an ancient
time of feudal ancestors and perhaps a
familiar soul liken to the old soul within
my present Hawaiian Geisha who tips
and toes a line of devoted love not felt
by my spirit for many decades.

The steam escaping the pot lets me know
it beckons me to pour the heated fluid into
the ceremonial pot prior to traditional
"Ippuku sashi agemasu"(1) to my love
my Honorable, Sakura.

With the grace and eloquence of a Japanese
Princess, she accepts my invitation to tea
slightly bows and Honors me with
"Otemae chodai itashimasu"(2) and with
this I return the half bow and smile, wet
eyes and abated breath pause to stare for
a moment taking in all of her Beauty.

There can only be a partial adherence to my
Honored Tradition, for on this foreign land
the beach affords no refuge save for a symbolic
"Chumon" or centre gate which joins our
Physical world with our Spiritual world within
the sacred tenets of the Tea ceremony.

Still, and yes, perhaps that is the key
Sakura, my love -  I pour the hot water into Your cup
of Your
"Genmaicha"(4) and my Green.  The water is
the YIN fueled with heat from the our fire the YANG.
And together we have discovered the Balance our
spirits have been seeking for a  millennia, if not
longer.

On the beach of Your country, no traditional wear
is needed when our sacraments for one another
have been met with a strong desire for the other's
Happiness.  I believe we are in agreement here.

We drink.  The hot liquid warms my throat of desire
to entangle my life with Yours.  The look in Your
eyes tell me much of the same need tortures You,
as well.  I rise and extend my hand and You take it.

Arms encircle and girds torsos in tune and fitted
as a final lost puzzled piece now found.....
completing two and making one.

We walk, now under the growing dark as the sun
begins to set and I guide us to the oceans edge
the water cold, awakens much more than the
sensation of touch; alive, I want to spend my
every minute, seconds with You...

And to complete this "Chado"(3) I turn to face You
for this ceremony has accomplished what it has
meant to:  For Samurai, Amatsu, and Geisha, Sakura,
cherishing this sacred encounter all disturbing
thoughts evaporate and we are now enveloped in an
atmosphere of relaxing tranquil calm.  And because
I believe the basics have been met within cups
of Tea, with honor, respect, tranquility and Pure

I kiss You; You kiss me back
and we begin. . .

. . .a ceremony of Tea consummates two lives to one...

our journey towards enlightenment. . .

(1) I would like to serve you a bowl of tea
(2) Thank you for making tea
(3) Way of the Tea
(4) Genmaicha (玄米茶, "brown rice tea"), is a Japanese brown rice green tea consisting of green tea combined with roasted popped brown rice. It is sometimes referred to colloquially as "popcorn tea" because a few grains of the rice pop during the roasting process and resemble popcorn.
