Hope

From riches to rags by shame’s deceit  
poor boy finds hope in a plan complete
Defending desire from suffocating platitudes  
he pushes forward with assertive attitude  
 
The pounding heart beats black and blue
the mind enslaved by self defeating residue  
of ghostly traitors and lies of the purposeless  
until a silent, trembling soul is made doubtless;
 
it must recapture courageous passion
inspiring a preoccupied nation  
of embattled, aspiring peacemakers
who gave up too much to the takers
 
He turns to sooted, shell shocked, burned out mourners
digging the dead from collapsed street corners;
points out sun in the breaking fallout clouds  
to imply to survivors what the future allows
 
Soon the curtain of dreadful unknowing  
swept aside by fulfillment of good goals flowing
leaves nothing to see but a paradise  
of opportunity built on good advice
