Down to the Root
In my garden perfection begins
at the root of every living thing
The biggest juicy bargains
out of what the roots can bring
Now in the case of weeds
that grow in windswept hearts
Gardens now herbal cages of needs
Who’s poison escapes broken parts
And contrary to common lore
They abandon the orphans even more
For now even the lonely spirit is set free
From growing and healing like a rooted tree
New roots are needed
To save the garden to be weeded
to gather soils of fellowship
While weeds rot in forgotten hardship
Rot to yesterday's rain
With ceasing famine pain
and dance to creatures feasting
On the story of sorrows passing
from spoils of old, plowed sod
Now a garden for the fruit of God
at the root of every living thing
The biggest juicy bargains
out of what the roots can bring
Now in the case of weeds
that grow in windswept hearts
Gardens now herbal cages of needs
Who’s poison escapes broken parts
And contrary to common lore
They abandon the orphans even more
For now even the lonely spirit is set free
From growing and healing like a rooted tree
New roots are needed
To save the garden to be weeded
to gather soils of fellowship
While weeds rot in forgotten hardship
Rot to yesterday's rain
With ceasing famine pain
and dance to creatures feasting
On the story of sorrows passing
from spoils of old, plowed sod
Now a garden for the fruit of God
