except, i wouldn’t be able to feel it.
hanging by a thread, as i watch you sharpen a knife.
feeling the ground beneath me sink, i reach for you…
my pride anguishes the sympathy you bestow.
kicking up dirt, afterwards apologetic.
save all the persuasions, i’ve got things to say.
if i cannot do anything about these
barriers, boulders, barricades, bridges
i may not be here to stay
