Architect John Smith

Of his thousands of architectural drawings,
he, architect John Smith, knew very well,
most were below average,
few barely mediocre
and, here and there a rare, accidental one, bordering
- even if never quite achieving -
some degree of originality...

Of his mediocrity, he was well aware.
With his mediocrity, he had come to terms
long, long time ago.
As long as he didn't venture
outside this ever expanding circle of peers
- of peers complimenting each other's mediocrity -
his survival in the field would never be in question...

Architect John Smith
was, indeed, content, to say the least...
