Age of Angels
Three paces behind
my angel walks
I feel her energy
and when I stop suddenly
her breath tickles the fine hair
at the back of my neck
I am forbidden
to tell you
her name
which she once whispered
ever so softly
in my ear
She does not talk much
but I know she is always
there
vibrating in tune
with the beating of my heart
I feel her resonate
and know I am never alone
I play a game
for which she scolds me
If I turn quickly and stare
from the corner of my eye
I almost catch a glimpse
almost
But she is always
faster than my thoughts
always three paces behind
yet one step ahead
even on Mondays
which is her special day
in this Age of Angels
that we share

I have to tell you, Priya - that having a guardian angel is the latest "thing" over here right now. Even some doctors have jumped on the bandwagon and are telling people it's OK and natural in this difficult recession hit climate to imagine a mystical being looking after one's personal interests - it's somehow reassuring, they reckon. So watch out Designer Angels must be on the way!

I have been informed my own personal angel died in a fire, which is probably the reason why I have spent a good chunk of my life to date surrounded by water. Altho I agree cynical commercialisation can be enough to shrink anyone's belief - particulary with aspects that can't be explained easily or logically.

No, 2 x 5 = 10 was about twins (unrelated) who burned to death in a block of flats in Lewisham. If you hadn't noticed already, P - I do not have "conventional" belief systems - so there is no apology required. From the age of about 7, I have had something or someone looking out for me in various guises (Remember Angels in Tibet and Ireland?)I am sorry that my unconventional ideas have misled you - the apology is entirely mine. So please chillax, Priya - there's nothing at all for you to fret over.

Strange and poignant poem. The language is almost lyrical in it's shimmering beauty.
Also, congratulations on becoming a "Dangerous Mind"! I think you now have the highest rank of anyone on this site.

Why thanks Jack - have you noticed that if you shout the word angel it trips itself up! It's as if the word automatically lulls you into a peaceful state.

Gorgeous poem, I agree, a hint of sadness, almost longing but reassuring at the same time. This will touch a lot of people.
