Lull
Night lull between flare-ups has me cautious,
I’ve taken jolts repeatedly.
Quivering from the work of a stun gun,
Beyond sundowner’s flash and gust.
The murderous mandatory evacs,
They’ve uprooted the missing ones.
Who now wander in their ghosted night walk,
Their cries are drowned by the silence.
I listen in quiet dread as winds rush
Between the lulls and front door frame,
Where the chilled breath of their howls infiltrate
I offer my bare floor to rest.
And local news just reported before,
Another flare-up, no pity.
In the time it took to swallow the moon,
A thousand acres to the torch.

Thank you, Tim, for your thoughts & concern. x
It’s rather like the earthquakes here; you never know where or when. But the difference here is: earthquakes create fires (usually from ruptured gas lines), but fires don’t create earthquakes.
Little comfort in such an analogy, however.

Close! Reached West San Fernando Valley, West Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills... and that’s in L.A. city/ L.A. County. You see, the city covers much more territory than many think. I’m in the west San Fernando Valley which is in the county, but I’m also an Angelino.
This is what I pm’d Gahddess Worship:
“As for my safety; I think I’m okay now, but I have family still waiting for mandatory evacuation orders in several areas to be lifted before they can go back to a home or a rubble- covered foundation and an empty hull of a car (or what have you).”
Thanks for your concern, Kimmy. x

I love the way this reads with its kind of staggering rhythm befitting the topic and angst and uncertainty of 'will be be o.k, or not'
{PS: I know that picture only too well; it's scary. I hope it rains soon for you, Jade - we've just had a week of downpours to end the 'fire-season'}.

Re: Re. Lull
Thank you so much, Josh, for your embrace & understanding of what I’ve been passing down to the reader how impactful this is.
It started with
“In the Time of Fires”. Then -
just hours before the start of the recent holocaust, I published “Fire Harvest”. And now, there’s “TRAPPED!”, and “Lull”.
As for rain, it’s been forecast we might have precipitation by our Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, the 22nd.
What a blessing that would be. x

I wish you safety, Jadey. You catch the danger well here, like a flaming Damocles sword. Beautifully written.

What a powerful write... I particularly like the last stanza:
And local news just reported before,
Another flare-up, no pity.
In the time it took to swallow the moon,
A thousand acres to the torch.
Very very strong!

Re: Re. Lull
I’m grateful for how you have come through the horrible conflagrations near where you are. And last night the latest total of those killed in the holocaust destruction of Paradise was upgraded to many hundreds that perished!
I feel what I write during these uncertain times doesn’t amount to much. But there’s you and me, and others here on site who know those who have incurred loss or seen it. It’s always better to know you’re not alone.
You’re always held fast in my thoughts and heart. x <3

Thank you, dearest, you’re such a love. And knowing your prayers mingle with the ether, I’m sure I’ll make it through alright.
