Image for the poem I Bare my Soul

I Bare my Soul

I give you all that I am,
with all my inadequacies
complete with the moments
I have yet to fail; times I have
to be enraged

count on it with everything,
carry it with robust hands,
sprinkle it with hope and probability

nourish it with your presence,
fill it with your love, embrace
it with your sorrows

I give you all that I am,
and all that I will be,
if you will have me?

Author's Note
“The beginning of love is the will to let those we love, be perfectly themselves, the resolution not to twist them to fit our own image. If in loving them we do not love what they are, but only their potential likeness to ourselves, then we do not love them: we only love the reflection of ourselves we find in them.”
