Waiting
For someone else
To say
Yes you can
Graduate,
(Sometimes you have to take classes “in regression” that should’ve been caught way back when)
Yes you can
Have the job
(Sometimes they want you to blow somebody; especially if you’re a woman)
Yes you can
Have the promotion;
(Sometimes they want you to invite your rival co-workers over for dinner and pretend)
It’s got to go
Through
Too many other
Hands
Besides yours
(And there’s always somebody
With a higher ruling astrological chart
Ready to outpace you.)
You're at someone else's
Mercy.
