I Can’t Wait!
I can’t wait till I’m an old man!
Yea I said it!
You want to be young again
But I wanna be old.
Old like when you say something
Inappropriate,
Sexually inappropriate
People just laugh it off
And call you a dirty old man.
Old like when you say something crazy
Out of the blue
People just ignore it
Or laugh and call you
A crazy old man.
Or when you speak the truth,
No holds barred,
Call ‘em
Like you see ‘em,
People just roll their eyes,
Or they laugh
Because they can’t believe
That you said out loud
What they’ve been thinking
But would never say
Because they know
that they can’t get away with saying it!
Being old will be fuckin great!
Except for the whole
getting ready to die shit!

Cool poem, but I have a question about it. You mention saying sexually inappropriate things, and that made me wonder if this poem was intended to point out the flaws in our interactions with older people. It seems like a satirical comment on the "boys will be boys" attitude toward the elderly, as if they're not worth helping because they'll die soon anyways. However, all other components of your poem seem to be complimentary. This makes it seem that you're encouraging sexually inappropriate behavior, which I'm not sure I support, and I'm concerned about you as a poet facing backlash, especially in the #metoo era. Certainly you have artistic license over your own work, but I think it's worth considering.

Thanks for the feedback, but I’m just pointing out the harmless way old people say things that young people would never get away with.
