Change Like The Weather
Waiting to hear your voice for the first time in years,
Dancing barefoot in my bedroom,
Grinning and laughing in a weightless way I thought I'd lost,
Marveling at how you could do this to me so easily.
After we had said goodnight,
Though you still echoed in my head,
I could think of nothing but that fevered, frantic kiss shared on the Métro,
How desperately I wanted you that night
And how the years since have done nothing to dim that hunger.
Every nerve and fibre, body and soul,
Screamed out for your touch in the lonely darkness;
To refresh the long-faded scent of your skin, the taste of your tongue;
The insistent, hungry teasing of your fingertips;
My name, escaping your lips in a sigh.
I woke from a blissful memory of your arms around me,
Your breath soft and warm on the back of my neck,
Skin to skin in the pale light of early morning.
The cold reality of the space between us pierced my racing heart like ice.
You have always been the most infuriating flirt
Yet I would not change that for the world;
Your semi-casual mention of your ancient, striped sofa -
And just how well it has known us both -
Pushed all the right buttons to leave me blushing and breathless.
In a heartbeat, I'm remade as a giddy, lustful teenager.
So I bide my time, under storm-rinsed skies,
Until I can have you all to myself
And with just a word, time and distance will disappear once again.
