MS, You and me
I have a 'disability'. Nothing earth-shattering about that. 1 in 7 of the population has one. I'm not unusual; quite ordinary in fact. I'm average height, average build, brown hair, brown eyes..... quite average. If I have an 'extra' string to my bow it is my positiveness, my energy, my ability to see a challenge and address it. In short I am a problem solver - or was until I stopped work. I probably still do it; In fact I'm actually doing it now! I also have a talent for 'seeing' the special qualities in people that sometimes, even they, don't see in themselves. I've observed it in you. A kindness, a gentleness. A spirited nature that has been eroded over time but now seems to have been re-invigorated. A thirst for finding things once important to you but long submerged under the heavy blanket of survival. Providing food, shelter, clothes, love and comfort for others in your care. But who cares for you? Sometimes things happen and we cannot control them but must simply play our part in the story as it unfolds. To act our part, to say our lines and to do the best we can and be the truest we can be for each other when at centre stage until the next scene commences and the leading actor enters, then we know to retire gracefully to the wings, neither disappointed nor frustrated but content in the knowledge that we gave a good account of ourselves. In this there is an acceptance of our roles but rather than being downcast we should instead celebrate the performance of our lives and make the most of this special event in life; to live a little, to feel alive, to embrace this opportunity to hold, to touch, to love another human being if just for a while.
