My Bruised Heart
My bruised heart
It trembles under the slightest of pressure
It’s been beaten black and blue
By vulgar words and hate filled slurs
It’s been scratched and scrapped
By the edges of your broken promises
Every beat feels like a punch
Knocking the wind out of me
I can barely stand
I’m faint and dizzy
Because you tied a string around my heart
And dragged it through the streets of hell
Then tossed it into the garbage
Beside my discarded flesh
Void and empty
Inside there’s nothing left
My bruised heart still works
But it hurts terribly
Every beat
It trembles under the slightest of pressure
It’s been beaten black and blue
By vulgar words and hate filled slurs
It’s been scratched and scrapped
By the edges of your broken promises
Every beat feels like a punch
Knocking the wind out of me
I can barely stand
I’m faint and dizzy
Because you tied a string around my heart
And dragged it through the streets of hell
Then tossed it into the garbage
Beside my discarded flesh
Void and empty
Inside there’s nothing left
My bruised heart still works
But it hurts terribly
Every beat
