Soul Soup
Inside is a bubbling cauldron
Morsels of thoughts, doubts, memories, words
All steeped in emotion
Always simmering
Usually contained
But sometimes a furious boil
When the heat builds to bursting
I ladle up a serving
Trying to keep it small
Pretending not to watch as you taste
Not to care if you like the flavour
Aware that the scent is overpowering
Too bitter, spicy, salty
But helpless to water it down
Worried when you stay silent
Unconvinced when you finish politely
Secretly longing
For you to lick the bowl clean
To eagerly finish every drop
And ask for seconds
