We sit down over breakfast,
I still feel
your impression from last night.
You say,"I love you."
I study my english muffin,
counting nooks and crannies,
watching butter melt.
You stand.
You pour more coffee,
but I don't look over.
I don't have an answer

Your coffee cup slams
and I look up.
You search my eyes.
Now you count nooks and crannies,
Wondering how to take back
what was intended to be irrevocable.
I still feel
your impression from last night.
You say,"I love you."
I study my english muffin,
counting nooks and crannies,
watching butter melt.
You stand.
You pour more coffee,
but I don't look over.
I don't have an answer

Now you count nooks and crannies,
Wondering how to take back
what was intended to be irrevocable.
