Pennies For A Dollar
Silhouettes in the sun
heads down, eyes fixed, watching
as the coin wobbles and sinks
to lie as their heart, flat, motionless
crushed by the wait for love
and, in this deflated state
do they miss the ripples
fail to see the little waves
crashing against the remnants
of another's longing
desires cast likewise
lives pinned
under the weight
of unacquainted love
I clasp tighter the hand within mine
bow my head
a silent wish
This one not for me.
