Just a Job

Listening is what we do
So sorry if it seems to you
That we have made some special bond
Although we can admit we're fond
But closeness is the stuff we deal
We know our skill can help you heal
And so we’ll listen and be kind
And we will help your feet to find
It’s just our job, it’s what we do
For others just the same as you
Our words and tone are finely measured
To make you feel unique and treasured
But when you turn and walk away
For us it’s just another day

She should have known all this was true
And yet she still fell hard for you
Her soul was longing to be known
And you accepted what was shown
Your talent must come from above
For she mistook your skill for love
But you moved on at your job’s end
Give back her heart so it can mend.
