Watchers to a fearful dark new world.

A tower fell
and all the heads turned
the second fell
and we tuned in
to watch
to see
to witness
to observe,
helpless as the second plane made contact,
already aware of the outcome
watching on fat square televisions
outdated news of a timeless tragedy.
Before our cosy world
of American might and safety
would shatter
like so many glass shards in the towers,
with some of us fearing for cousins
that may or may not be caught beneath.
The smoke and fire all caught on camera
all to see
and none to save;
blissful blind ignorance
before our eyes were opened wide in shock horror
and War was declared on Terrorism;
another event we could not unsee.
Watchers to a fearful dark new world.

Author's Note
I did not watch it as it happened live, but watched it one the news in the afternoon after school at my Grandmother's. Thankfully none of my cousins were caught in the event.
