Quintains
The lust for gold...
makes a hole in the soul...
and some folks will never be able...
to fill the hollow place inside...
not even at the table.
That hole in your soul?
That empty place?
You know it very well...
If it has not yet crossed your mind...
The Christians call it Hell.

True it is Ely... I don't desire to trade places with people caught up in the place called hell.
False pearls don't make for real beauty.

I wouldn't want to trade either... King don't have no fun... he is an overprotected prisoner of his own power. Give me the common folk any day...
And by the way... thanks for the b'day poem... I will treasure it always... hugs Ely

Old age has its benefits...
I have the advantage of accumulated experience...
as long as my memory functions.
So far... there are still enough brain cells... and I'm growing new ones as fast as I can. Ely

There is something classic and blunt about this, like a grittier Robert Frost. I am enjoying the rhythm of your poems, and this was no exception

Thank you Taurus... Frost was one of my early poetic experiences...
I'm pleased and flattered to be compared. Thank you for your comment, and thanks for dropping in. Ely
PS... sorry to be so long answering... missed your post earlier...

Emptiness so deep
Feels us 'til that day we sleep,
Child do not weep.
"Outsoared that shadow night...
That, which men miscall delight"

Hi Oshi... not sure how to interpret this... you appear to have a major typo at the beginning of line two... unless "Feels" is what you intended to say...
which is less than clear as it currently reads...
Thanks for dropping by... Ely
