Rebirth of a Tormented Soul

The war raged on,
The loss of an era, and a society, now gone.
The sky was dark,
The world taken by landsharks.
Across the stones fae stepped,
Across the black waters where souls slept,
And freshly severed heads floated,
In the water, they crowded.
She couldn't look but a second at them,
For their eyes would look back towards her,
And begin to glass over, before her very eyes.
She pondered each demise,
Was it the guillotine, an explosion, or some other weapon that sent a laconic end to their lives?
She stopped at a small island, where she found a boat to take she further,
In the distance fae heard many a ghastly murmur.
This boat was a small, wooden vessel of peculiar shape,
Coffin-like and with a reaper captain, both suited their landscape.
The captain reached his skeletal hand out from under his black cloak,
"One item of value, one treasure, in payment for travel, is all is needed of ye" he bespoke.
She was but a humble human, with nothing she thought was of value,
Before she could answer, "I will let you pass with your virtue."
For you see, she was a kind, loving, and generous, human,
And to get by it seems, only needed examples of her lifespan.
As they crossed the abyssal waters they came upon the murmurs,
They sailed through them, and the others.
They sailed through the cries, through the wails, and through the screams.
Sailed through coma victim's dreams,
And to their destination.
A place quite foreign, it seemed broken, and devoid of passion.
Lifeless, not a spark of energy filled this place,
There seemed to be no trace of anything she could feel, in this space.
She could see dark, hear sadness, taste bitterness, and feel coldness against fae skin,
But she could feel no energy, could not sense a living thing, nothing...but sin.
For fae had been good all her life, until that day,
From her path fae had knowingly stray.
Fae did the unthinkable, fae...killed.
She fate fae had sealed.
For you see, fae had gotten jealous and angry,
And temporarily lost control of her psyche.
She only killed once, and begged for forgiveness,
Fae was able to live the rest of her life in bliss,
But because of this, had to pay the price.
This was her sacrifice.
Her next life had to be a ghastly one,
Fae won't remember choosing the life, when her new life will dawn,
But fae will have to learn from her choice.
...The choice fae made to end a life, to snuff out a light.
Maybe this time she'll get it right.
