tomorrow's promise
today was optimistic
she saw yesterday standing close
but she didn't let her bad mood bother
tomorrow was promised as her betrothed
he was handsome and exciting
a man of the world with a great vision
he said they would have a mansion someday
with so many rooms she would lose herself
tomorrow spoke of fractured yesterday
he said he could heal even the broken
today was angry
she wanted to leave her behind
the great future was ahead of her
she was anxious to greet him
she didn't want yesterday to ruin the moment
with her pessimistic attitude
but tomorrow wouldn't leave yesterday behind
he said
"she is a part of you
parts I wouldn't live without"
"she is the fierce way you hold your head
always slightly to the right
with beautiful questions shining in your eyes"
"your past has flavored you
she is you
wake up lady
I can't take you with me
until you are willing I should heal her"
"are you willing to let me touch this part of you
the hard side
that shoulders all your pain?"
I answer
"My yesterdays are all broken
I'm afraid our mansion would be full of my skeletons
if I don't bury them deep in my subconscious
in an unmarked grave
where no one can dig them up"
the future then embraced me
saying
"you've been very brave today
in admitting your fears
we're half the way there"
"I'll take you as you are into your future
where it will be as you dream
with so many rooms you can lose yourself in
and I'll tell you now
you won't bury those skeletons
I will they be showcased and displayed
as testimony to the like-minded"
"lady, open your eyes and walk into the tomorrow I promised
this new life is yours as my love light"
