...and when a man cries
in the corner of his
highs
no one could see
no one would see
no one should see
and when a man cries
behind the veil
of his highs
he has done all
he could've done
he would've done
he should've done
to avoid
the void
and
when a man cries
under clear blue skies
it rains
no
not a flood
just a pair of droplets
on a couple of specks of dirt
leaving them moist
yet as barren
as before
and when a man cries
with open dry eyes
his widest of grins
are his
whitest of lies
do not ask what happens
when?
a man cries
it is only after
"the man"
in him
dies
.
it happens
without a sigh
because
when a man cries
he does so
behind the visible highs
and when a man cries....

It's the hidden that is most deeply felt. It's always been my belief that it takes great strength to show one's pain and that a man is no less a man for his tears. Tis only a testament to his good and loving heart. But you are correct, more often than not, there is a lot of ouch going on behind the "I'm good!"

being a bloke
being with blokes
seeing blokes...most of the times, even the best
of mates won't have any idea
for men...are supposed to be men, unlike their faierer counterparts they rarely disclose their heartaches.
This is the fact, i have come across... nearly 4 decades of my existence. Time somehow chose this moment for this fact to be expressed in this rudimentary ink.
may not be personal at this moment but it is but a fact that behind the masks of mischief and grins...things are different.
well...thankfully these days awareness is spreading that it is OK for men to cry and ask for help. Machoism does not mean inhumanism, this is being recognised though slowly but surely.
appreciate immensely, dear Friend your kindness and presence and your reviews on my humble ink.
warmest regards

I find total truth in your words above. My soulmate, life partner, IS as you have described, one of the many reasons I have been blessed in this life. He is not afraid to let his emotions show, his humanism and I respect/love him deeper for it. And those who realize there is no shame in it, feel the same. If my friend here, felt different, he would not call to attention the strength of the many women who have carried the heavy loads without shedding a flood of tears for their burdens, Each of us have both female/male feelings/strengths, but many equate strength not only in the physical sense, but in the sense of being willing or able to hide emotions ,when in truth, it is in the self acceptance that one openly shows humanism without shame.
How many fights, killings, even wars have begun for fear of being thought as weak.
When the tears need to be set free, let them flow, for it is the true self exposing the human feelings we all SHOULD have.
I deeply appreciate/love your calling this to light, my friend.

Lucky AND Blessed is not only You Teri but also Him.
The Man! as a true as in Mankind should be...not gender stereotypical. The indoctrination or ingraining starts with culture one is exposed to...and unfortunately...it is but rare to find souls that stand up and hold fast their humanism in the face of such extreme pressure not only from peers but also from the broader society in general.
Yes, behind our genders lie the blatant and undeniable truth, we're humans. But again, reality buries it under its heavy and ugly weight.
Apprecaition of your presence and support my Friend!! i despite my best efforts know won't be possible in words...
warmest of regards

It is the MEN such as you and others here on DU, that begin cultural change. We are all blessed by their presences. Hopefully in time, the world will catch up if we keep the foundation intact.

So... Where to start
*pauses*
(For composure)
Indeed this is the poem, I've needed.
When the inside doesn't stop crying long enough for that muse and time to colate and get on with it.
Because
When a man cries.
Thank you soo much for this, your timing couldn't have been better.
Let that be a testament to the talent on this page.

...well well well...
where do i begin Sir..
for the honor is
way beyond the comprehension of this scribbler.
the presence in itself of the poet admired is an honor
on top of that the worthiness of his listing...beyond words
the gratitude.
most importantly
the ultimate compliment i find
is the statement that this scribble
of some meaning to a Friend!!
yes...
we
men
do cry...
sometimes the 'when' is now.
beyond words
to express the appreciation
the gratitude.
humbled.

men need to cry .. they have to cry .. strange how so many feel the need to hide their emotions, that or even judge their own tears, and think of themselves as unmanly .
i do not understand the idea of men being weak if they cry . .to me that is silly , its like saying .... you are not a human being and its not ok to cry , kind of thing. men and women should be able to cry without being judged for it , my thoughts anyhow and neither should we judge ourselves for stepping away from societies expectations .
i liked this poem the idea of the man crying on a lonely desert , a hot place needs water at times, heat needs rain and so too , a man needs to cry .. nice work , i enjoyed ,

welcome
is the review kind and in depth!
well..it's one thing they need to..yes they do need to
and totally another whether they do
and when.
unfortunately that's the way life ordinarily is...harsh, ugly and full of pressures/constraints the invisible shackles.
well my esteemed Friend..it may seem silly to you, the concept i.e. the perception of weakness if a man is seen crying.
I like the idea of referring a human as a person rather than by their gender for the simple reason...the world has attached too much baggage to each gender, with its 'expectations'. Hence if we say a person was crying... would not sound that odd...in fact more humane, than saying that a man is crying.
appreciate immensely dear friend...your presence
and feedback.
