A Father he is

to many strays meandering  
within survival's shallow breath  
 
A limited resource  
snagging the dying kitten
from the mire of grave
 
Graciously spending his last penny  
on antibiotics for congestion
food easing distended bellies  
 
Shelter from the elements
rubber totes and blankets
fresh water for the weary
 
A Father he is to a multitude
of four-legged creatures  
guided by the Universe  
 
to a home for the homeless
seeking nothing in Life  
save all he has to give:  
 
Love, and Himself  
 
as if there's any difference
